Comments: I was in Nam Jun68-Jul69 with the USMC, 1st Force Recon Co. as a scout/sniper. It took me nearly 20 years to start getting rid of serious PTSD symptoms and 10 more years to be totally at peace. I am a patriot and I love this country. God has blessed me a lot in my life. I plan to go back to Nam later this year. Gerald

Comments: I'm 22 and have no connection (at least not one that I'm aware of) to any of the Veterans of the Vietnam War. And sadly, what I know about the war itself is only what I read in a high school text book. But recently I watched a marathon of re-runs of the television series, "China Beach", and I got to thinking. So since then I've read about lots of personal stories from men and women who served in Vietnam and I find myself experiencing a rollor-coaster of emotions. The words "right and wrong" didn't use their traditional definitions over there, did they? I can't pretend to truly understand what soldiers, doctors, nurses, civilians, etc. were forced to experience, deal with, and then eventually (hopefully) overcome. But I can only say that this 22-year-old girl (who is from a generation that I believe does NOT honor their veterans enough) is sincerely grateful to and unshamefully proud of those who served during the Vietnam War. I feel honor through you all, whether living or perished. Thank you.

Comments: I am the ex-wife of a Vietnam vet. Also and artist and poet My son found you site and turned it over to me to read the poetry. I was so touched. Thank you for seeing to it that so many have a voice. Only in the last few 3 or 4 years have I been able to face what the war did to me and my family and have begun to write about it and paint about it. It is a great catharsis. If you wish visit my website and read the poem and see the painting entitled AWOL {Absent Without Our Leave)I hope others will visit yours and experience a healing from it. My art is dedicated to the wives and children who stayed at home and waited for you all to return.

Comments: Hello Brother! Found your web site while looking for sites for K-9 Scout Dogs. I was in the Navy and stationed at Camp Tien Sha 1969-1970 and worked Deep Water Piers. Had a K-9 Scout Dog named Duchess. Several freinds from Jacksonville also stationed at Deep Water Piers/Camp Tien Sha. I really enjoyed the pictures and seeing the old places. Boom Boom Rock was a riot. Good shots of Camp Tien Sha from Monkey Mountain. Cannot believe all this time has passed. I still get flashbacks of the place and all that happened. Guess we were lucky to get out alive. One morning, I took Duchess and drove to the piers. Looked like Sunday morning. 50% of our Vietnamese workers killed the nite before at Bridge Ramp trying to blow up ammo. Found 'em w/ NSA passes on still on the bodies. Regards, Brother, drop line if you can,,,Bill Hutchinson

Comments: I felt compelled to express my gratitude and appreciation to all who have served in Vietnam. I am 23 years old and have no ties with any who have served in the war. I have recently been intrigued by the different facets of the war in Vietnam (i.e. war crimes, operations) but what tugs at my heart the most are the personal accounts of horror and fright that the young men had to go through during this time in their lives. There is nothing that I can say that will ever take away the scars of the past but what I do want to add is that I feel your deep pain. As I read the personal accounts of various individuals I can't help but to feel your agony in that dark hour of your lives. I deeply sympathize with you all and feel compelled as an American to say, "I am sorry!" I do hope that God grants you a peace that transcends all understanding and may your deeds be remembered forever throughout history.

Comments: I'm a third year History student from the university of New South Wales, in Sydney Australia. I'm researching the role of Vietnam Veterans in the anti-war movement through film, Congressional hearings, writings and the public forum. In our studies we have dealt a lot with the problems faced by Veterans, and I would like to say best of luck with solving them. You may not have been understood for many years, but people are beginning to understand you now, and appreciate what you did.

Comments: TDY at Da Nang air strip Jan 1962 - June 1962. We built the Team 1A, 6920th Security Wing compound just east of the mainstrip in Jan 1962. The Air strip was Gravel!! Came in on C124's from Clark Air Base with load of diesel Generator's and semi trailers. Inside the compound were two generators, two semitrailers ( one comm, one intercept) some humongous antenna's. we were just West of the main USAF tent camp. eventually, we did get out of base-- we all purchased bicycles. Some wild rides back to camp to beat the shooting curfew at 2200. Hey, we were there when Bars were dark and had no front walls. Talked to a few vets that were there later-- all reference points had changed.

Comments: To whom ever is the owner of this web page, i must commend you on a job well done. In all actuality i was looking for stories about Vietnam because i have a 7 page-oral-essay on a peice of history and i figured that the only war i didn't know a lot about was Vietnam. ( i should let you know i'm still in high school.)The oral part is also allowed to be done via email. I'm not well connected to anyone who has been to Vietnam or in the war, so i guess i am asking you if it is all right if i could interview you about the war and the things that took place there. If it's entirely all right with you of course. I'm asking you because out of all the other sights i have been to yours was done with an such profound images and stories that i figured you might be able to help me. If not then i understand. ANyhow. Thank you . _erin

He was a civilain (air traffic controller) working at a heliport where they transported wounded. It is just like he disappeared . No one has seen or heard of him , I know he was killed because I saw what was left of him. Even though he was a civilain he gave his life to help our service men. He had been in Air Force. His name was Charles (Charlie) R. Kirkland, Jr. Big guy, dark curly hair. He was 33 years old. Any help would be appreciated. Diane Norton

Comments: I've looked at the guestbook several times a week for more than a year now, and I'm constantly impressed by the number of visitors who seem to be young people trying to find information on what Vietnam veterans endured. This is very heartwarming, indeed. I've noticed many of these visitors are seeking places to find more information. I've e-mailed many of them, but thought I'd post this link for others who might be curious. It is an interview with General Westmoreland I did for the American Legion Magazine two years ago. And for my fellow veterans out there who might be curious about what "The Boss" is up to these days, you might find it interesting, too. By the way, Westy is still alive and kicking -- at 87, he still takes daily walks around the Old Historic District in Charleston. Anyway, here's the link -- http://www.legion.org/pubs/1997/domino6.htm Anybody had the nerve to drink one of those nasty Ballentine's Beers in the last 30 years? That stuff was nombah ten!

Personally, i wonder if i would be so brave as to keep going on like the thousands of soldiers in Vietnam did; especially with my best friends dieing left and right. I say to everyone who served in this or any war thank you and may you be rewarded in some way for your deeds.

The Log has thus far collected names and service information of 245,000 present and former naval personnel. Most of the names are of living persons self-enrolled or by gift tributes from friends or families, but a large number are of deceased veterans enrolled in the Log by their descendants or by surviving shipmates. All enrollments form a part of America's enduring naval heritage, a permanent and publicly accessible video register available for viewing at the Naval Heritage Center next to the Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue, midway between the White House and the Capitol, or on the Memorial's Internet web site, www.lonesailor.org. Each Log entry contains the entrant's name, date and place of birth, dates and branch of naval service, highest rate or rank attained, up to five top medals and awards and five duty stations. Log enrollments help support the Memorial's values-based educational programs, which honor, preserve and celebrate America's enduring naval heritage. Sons and daughters desiring to enroll their mother or father should send his or her name, date and place of birth, dates of naval service, highest rate or rank, up to five awards received and five duty stations served accompanied by a $25 tax deductible enrollment donation to Navy Log Dept Y2000, P. O. Box 96570, Washington, DC 20077-7685. A head and shoulders portrait photo may be added for an additional $25 (photos cannot be returned). Enrollments make welcome gifts to veterans. Sponsored enrollments are also sought from relatives of deceased naval veterans. The Navy Memorial Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt organization that receives no government support for building and operating the Navy Memorial or the Naval Heritage Center next to the Memorial. ### Media contact: Jann Hoag (202) 737-2300, ext. 714

It has been brought to my attention, however, that our goverment is about to turn its back on all of our POW/MIAs, and I am truly ashamed. I have read so many first hand accounts of what our courageous countrymen have done and sacrificed in the name of liberty, that I can't bear to let this issue rest with me. Veterans and their families come from all over the United States to get the 'welcome home' they didn't get when they returned from Vietnam. Skidmore is the smallest town in the nation to host The Moving Wall, and we have had it 3 different years. This year's event will be our 13th. The theme for Freedom Fest 2000 is "Captured Eagles", honoring our POW/MIA's. For more information check out our web page, or e-mail Carla at crwetzel@netins.net.

Comments: I need to find anyone who remembers a crash on 2 Feb 68 carrying 5 men from B Troop, 1/9th, 1st Air Cav. Div. On board was Spec 5 Joseph Puggi. I have been searching for him or his remains for many years. Need to locate Ron Arsenault of same unit. Pilot. Last known address was Mineral Wells Tx. Also on board were pilot Don Burnham, Joe Pringle, Charles "Bud" Adkins, and Ken Patton. If you were with the "Blues" and went to crash site in May 68 to recover what little remains there were, (including one of Pringles dog tags), or know anything at all about these men, please, please contact me ASAP!!! The crash occured from a flight (huey) from Camp Evans, destination Chu Lai. The other chopper flown by William (Bill) L. Clark arrived without incident. Burnhams crashed on the top of the penninsula about 12 miles N. of Da Nang. Gov't can't seem to find the correct coordinance. Thank you for your help. lest we forget....Suzy

Comments: Im am college student and an ROTC cadet. I am doing a paper about the lack of patriotism people my age have. I was just surfing for info on some war related websites and happen to run across this one. I believe the bad wrap the Vietnam War received caused many people to loss respect and faith in their country. If even a small percent of the troops who are still thought to be held captive in Vietnam were returned home, I believe a new light could be shed on this "national disgrace."

Comments: Freedom Fest is a "Welcome Home" to all veterans that is held each year in Skidmore, Missouri. This will be our 13th year. The dates are September 8,9, and 10. This year we will be honoring the POW/MIA's. Our Theme is "Captured Eagles. In past years we have had as our guests, Sammy L. Davis, CMH, Col. Tom McKenney, Earl and Patty Hopper, Adrian Cronaur, Danny "Greasy" Belcher, Rev. John Steer, and a host of others. This is one of the finest family oriented veterans events in the country. Here the veterans get the 'welcome home' they so richly deserve. If we help just one veteran, then our entire event is a success. Also, Skidmore is the smallest community in the nation to host The Moving Wall, and we have been honored to have had it in our community three different years. For more information, please log on to the Freedom Fest Web Site.

Comments: I salute all of you veterans. My dad was in Vietnam in 66-67. He was a Staff Sargent assigned to IV Corp Advisor Team 53. Dad made it home only to be killed in a military accident. My sister and I never got to talk to dad about his service days. I was six and my sister was two when dad returned home. Gretchen and I watch all of the documentaries about the Vietnam war that are put on The Discovery, PBS and The Learning Chanel. So that we can understand what dad and the rest of you Veterans went through while you were there. There is a documentary tonight on The Learning Chanel about the women soldiers that went over there. It's on at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. God Bless You All!!!! and Thank You for your sacrifices that you endured so children like my sister and I could growup up if a free country. Comments: Great site! I especially like the "Real" China Beach photos. I was at NSA, DaNang in '66 & '67. I was the Radioman on the YFU 67. It was a cargo craft that could travel at blistering speeds up to 18 knots-if the wind was with us. One night we actually had to turn around and return to DaNang Harbor...the wind was too strong and we were going backwards-with all three engines full ahead. We carried cargo, ammo, personnel, etc. from DaNang to Hue and Dong Ha. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of Tiger Island, in the South China Sea, just north of the Cua Viet River mouth? We had gone to far north that morning (December 18, 1966)and exchanged rounds with an NVA shore battery. They had artillery and mortars, we had two 20mm machine guns (and small arms). Nothing serious hit us and we did make it back
